Outrigger Island: Vacation Bible School

2 Comments » Taversia ,Arien ,

Throughout this week, Ravyn is attending Outrigger Island Vacation Bible School at my mother's church.  Her cousins are going through it with her.  And so far she's enjoying it.

Outrigger Island is teaching kids how to live God's unshakeable Truth.  It is based on Psalm 86:11 and it is a lot of fun.  They learn to know God, trust in Him, and learn that there is no better life than when you follow God's path.  When kids attend they receive a rather interesting and fun environment to learn together which happens to be a tropical paradise.

Tonight was bring your shades night.  You could bring either sunglasses or a hat or both.  Ravyn brought both, lol.  And we also dressed her in a sort of Hawaiian style.  I'll have to take some pictures or snag some from the church and post them.

Ravyn the Cowgirl

I'm trying desperately to convince Ravyn that she loves horses.  Seriously, I'm praying she does so I can teach her all that I know, involve her in what I love and throw her in the 4-H, the Ponyclub, and any other type horse play things I can find.  It's what I always wanted to do growing up.  Living my childhood through her?

Here's Ravyn on our little miniature horse, Golden Boy.  It looks like she's having fun…

Yes, she wears a helmet.  She's too little not to.  We went through the steps of how to saddle a horse, the side you get on a horse, how to turn him, etcetera.  Of course, we lead Golden Boy around the yard not that that little pony would ever run off with a kid on his back.  He is such a nice, lazy little pony.

My horse, Dawnie, is coming along nicely.  She's pulled a muscle or something in her back right leg and front left leg but we're taking care of it.  She loves the attention and can't get enough grooming.  Hates the bit though so I think I'm going to teach her how to ride without one.  We'll see.

Ravyn and the 3 Musketeers

My sister-in-law, along with my niece and nephew, arrived home late last night.  My step-father and brother met them in Oklahoma City where my sis-in-law's sister lives.  They had been up in Kentucky visiting but now it was time for them to come home.

My niece is 3 years old and my nephew is 9.  The last time my daughter saw either one of them was at her birthday back in June of 2007 when they happened to be up in Kentucky while we were still living there. But let me tell ya, she is so excited that they are finally here.  Today, my sis-in-law went to go see her friend who's dog just had puppies and she took all three kids with her.  Sounds like they had a blast.  My daughter came home and immediately told me she wants a puppy for christmas.  Now, these dogs are teacup chiuahuas.  And I would never get Ravyn one of these.  I mean, I don't have anything against them, they're just too damn small for a child to grow up with!  She needs a Labrador Retriever or something like that.

My niece is 3, just like I mentioned above, and she's the same height and size as Ravyn.  It's so odd to know my daughter is so small.  But then I was a small child too.  As was my husband per his mother.  She still wears size 2T in most clothes.  I have to get her pants at 3T and 4T because of the length of her legs but my mother either sews the waste for her or she has to wear a belt.  I wager Ravyn won't top 5 feet and 2 or 3 inches when she grows to a young adult.  I'm only 5 feet and 2 inches myself.  My husband is 5 feet and 10 inches.  I don't know, that's a long ways off anyway.

Kindergarten starts for her this year.  She's excited.  My husband is proud.  I'm sad.  This is 'real' school.  It's not a daycare or anything like that, it's real school!  She's growing too fast!  So, now I'm yelling at my husband to give me a son and soon!  No more daughter's, I have one already.  Two if you count my step-daughter!  So, where's my son!?

Anyway, the grill is almost ready.  And I'm hungry.
